Q. Why did you steal Dr.Demento's name?

A. Actually we had the name first. The Great Luke Ski and several other people put on "Dementia 99" in March of '99. Dementia 2001 is a continuation of that gathering, but is being brought to you on a larger scale. We came up with the idea to continue Dementia some time in December and were shocked to learn Dr.Demento's 30th anniversary album was named "Dementia 2000".

Q. Why will I not get tickets?

A. Dementia 2001 is not selling tickets to a single event, we are selling memberships to a group of events. If we could, we would let you come for free, but we have to pay for the convention some how. We are trying to put on a convention where people meet and have fun, not just show up and watch stuff. Once we receive your payment, we will notify you by E-mail and/or postcard. When you arrive, you don't have any tickets to forget, you just tell us who you are and we will give you your badge for the convention.

Q. Can make suggestions?

A. ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! We can't have all the good ideas. We want to have enough events happening that you'll have to miss something you wanted see. Unfortunately, this requires help from lots of people. If you have an idea for a panel, event, or anything else, AND are willing to run it, all the better.
If you have any ideas please E-mail us at
2001@TheLandOfDementia.com

Q. Should I really make reservations at the Holiday Inn Southfield?

A. YES!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! One of the ways we are able to bring you lower ticket prices is our room block. We have told the hotel we will bring in a certain number of people to stay the weekend at the hotel. As long as we meet %65 of that number, we get the convention space for cheaper. So please help support the con and make you're reservations early, or next year we may be forced to raise ticket prices. This is why it is important to notify the hotel that you are with the "Funny Music Convention", so they know how many people we brought to them. Once the room block fills up, we will post information on other local hotels

Q. Will you sell out?

A. Most likly not, well unless four hundred people show up. We do not have a fixed number of "tickets" to sell. If more people them we expect show up, we'll make the convention bigger

Q. Can we have Dementia 2001 in another state some year?

A. YES!! One of the first thoughts of this convention was to travel to different states each year featuring artists from that state. We'd like to make it through the first year though.

Q. Will Dr.Demento be there?

A. We have asked barry hansen to come as Barry Hansen. He has not replied to us. For the first year we will not be able to afford Dr.Demento at all. If you would like to donate the money to bring him here, that would be great.
if interested in donating please E-Mail

Q. Will Al be there?

A. For this year we will not be able to afford Weird Al at all. If you would like to donate the money to bring him here, that would be great.

Q. I've been on the Dr.Demento show, I Filk, I write, I sing my own funny music, can I perform?

A. YES! We have 2 function spaces. One for the big concerts and bigger events, and also a do-it-yourself music room. We will give artists as much time as possible in the main room, but the smaller room will be available to every one toget up and sing a few songs.

Q. What is "Filk"?

A. At the Sci-fi conventions, that the entire Convention Commmitiee attends, we have a group of people called Filkers. Filk stands for Sci-FI FoLK. In other words, Folk songs about Sci-fi and related subjects. Just as Folk has a tendency to be funny, so does Filk. If you've listend to the Dr.Demento show for a while, I'm quite sure you've heard Filk. Tom Smith's Domino Death, Physci Voice Mail Hotline, and Smurfer Girl are all Filk songs.
